Hi Teri,

Stick to your guns. A relatively small investment in the children of this community may save millions in law enforcement and incarceration costs in the long run. I realize that there are some fluff programs that can be eliminated in recreation, but any and all programs that provide structure to children while their parents work must be preserved. I was especially concerned about the loss of the swimming programs which serve such a large number of people in this community.

Also, if you haven't already done so, check out Michael Moore's documentary "Sicko." It is shocking that citizens in the United States pay more for health care than any other country, when much less affluent countries are able to provide universal health care. With the next phase of health care being dismantled in Tuolumne County, it is interesting to see what other countries are able to do.

Anyway, keep up the good work. You have another tough budget to work through, and I don't envy the difficulty of your position.

Thanks for your encouragement, Jim. I keep believing that one of these years, we'll have enough funding to do some really good things in Tuolumne County! I'm not letting go of the vision - don't you either!

Teri,
Thanks for telling it like it is, no matter how unpopular it might be. It doesn't do any of us any good if you just tell us what you think we want to hear. I know that it is going to be a difficult several years and we do need to find solutions - not just complain. Your thoughts of coming together to work through each issue as they arise is right on. We need to let our State Legislators and Governor know how we feel - do not take any more tax money from our local governments, no more "unfunded mandates" and give us a balanced realistic budget.
Again Teri - stay with it, you are doing a great job in leading our District and as BOS Chair Person, Thank You.
