Last August, AARP sent master photographer Andy Anderson to take a photo of my horse Chula and me. Now, ours was far from the best photo he’s taken (he’s more recently photographed Glenn Close in Montana, his photos made it into the legendary God Made a Farmer short featuring Paul Harvey’s essay of the same name, and lots of other places), so we’re in pretty good company.
This photo never made it into AARP’s printed article by David Hochman about couples who have moved after retirement (to the city or the country) though one with the Professor and me playing Pente did. If you get the AARP Magazine (circulation ~6 M), it was published recently.
Not only did Andy take the incredible photo, but generously, he went out of his way to connect me with literary giant, horseman, and all-around great guy, Tom McGuane. Tom and I talked horses (of course!), dogs, writing, Hollywood, Key West, and much more. His episode launches Jan. 1st!
Andy also connected me with a few others yet to be recorded (looking at you, Nate Bressler with Sage to Saddle!). Andy's also promised to come on Teri's Doing It! Podcast to tell us his story too but in the meantime, here's his Chula photo. I'm in love with it!
Subscribe so you don't miss an episode and read "All Hat, No Horse", my story about giving up Chula (and my saddle).
