Then Remember Your Oath

I'm dismayed at the silence of some elected officials (some who are right now reading this) on Donald Trump's authoritarian justification for the overthrowing the Constitution, laws, and regulations because of "massive fraud" in the 2020 election.

You may or may not agree, but if you ever served in office, tell me, did you swear to "support" or "defend" the Constitution when you were elected? If you did, you have an obligation, a duty, to take action.

In Idaho, electeds "...solemnly swear (or affirm, as the case may be) that [they] will support the Constitution of the United States, and the Constitution of the State of Idaho, and that [they] will faithfully discharge the duties of [their] office according to the best of [their] ability."

Here's how Webster's Dictionary defines "support":

"To bear the weight of, especially from below; keep from falling, sinking, or slipping."... "To bear or hold up (an amount of weight)."..."To keep from weakening or failing; give confidence or comfort to."

If you are serving or served in California, here's how Websters Dictionary defines "defend": "to drive danger or attack away from, defend the castle from invaders" [or at the very least] "to maintain or support in the face of argument or hostile criticism,.."

Both definitions are verbs. You know, denoting action. The Oath of Office didn't involve allegiance or loyalty to a Party (although I understand some parties require that now prior to gaining their support) or any other candidate or elected official. IMHO, if you took such an oath that was stupid.

If you took an oath to the Constitution and the Rule of Law means anything to you, you should be as concerned as I am. If your own character and integrity mean anything to you, then you are duty-bound to take action, to defend and/or support the Constitution of these United States of America and the state in which you swore.

On January 7, 2007, in California, I raised my right hand and laid it on a Bible in the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors Chambers. I swore the following:

I, Teri Murrison, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of California against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of California; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties upon which I am about to enter.

I'm no longer in office but choose to keep my oath. This is me doing that. The Constitution is the foundation upon which our nation stands (or falls).

What say you, electeds? Ignore, like this, or comment, you are required to take some action. Get some guts. Stand and be counted somewhere, if not here.

And if you don't follow suit in whatever publicly-visible manner you deem appropriate, I pray that people like me will do all we can in the next election to replace you with a real patriot.
