It's the Little Things (that are huge)
How something small, a few words, really, isn't. Not to me.
My friend Harvey just subscribed to Teri’s Ruby Slippers as a Founding Member! I can’t begin to express my gratitude for that and how encouraging that was, but what he said when he signed up was even better.
“To riff on your most excellent piece on philanthropy, your writing is a gift… Harvey.”
The nature of writing is solitary and social media can render it even more so when you’re on the wrong side of an algorithm as I frequently seem to be on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. I’m so pleased when someone responds.
I take absolutely nothing for granted. That you pause your busy day to read my ramblings is special to me. It means so very much.
And it means even more when something I write speaks to you like this.
“Teri, I had a look into your soul in this essay. I picked up a question from you to live with. What does the other have to say about life - what do they know that I don't? Thanks! Rhonda”
And then there was this:
Teri, your words and column always give me a new perspective and hope for tomorrow. Thank you so much. Patti and Frank”
And,
“Teri. I'm honored to be your friend and fellow pilgrim on the journey of writing and writers. I love your prose -- keep it up! Dave”
It may be that to each of these readers and friends it was a little thing to say what they said. But to me they were a big, big deal.
So, to each and every one of you who reads, who comments, and who cares. Thank you. What a great community I’m part of.
